Biography

Jalemba Aluvaala is a post-doctoral researcher with an interest in perinatal-neonatal clinical and health services research. He co-leads the neonatal component of the Clinical Information Network (CIN) under Prof. Mike English at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Nairobi, Kenya. The CIN for Neonates focuses on inpatient units serving small and sick neonates in Kenyan hospitals. Research interests include understanding neonatal outcomes, implementation research, pragmatic clinical trials and evidence synthesis for essential inpatient neonatal care. He is also a member of the Ministry of Health Technical Working Group on Neonatal Health. In addition, he holds a research track post as a Research Fellow/Lecturer and Consultant Paediatrician at the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, School of Medicine, University of Nairobi and Kenyatta National Hospital respectively.

Aluvaala is a Paediatrician with an MB.Ch. B and M. Med (Paediatrics and Child Health) from the University of Nairobi. He also holds a Master of Science in Epidemiology (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Medicine (University of Oxford). He has authored research articles and technical reports in the areas of Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research.
